Resumo

Popular e rebelde, o adolescente Landon Carter está ameaçado de expulsão da escola depois que ele e seus amigos deixam evidências de que beberam nos terrenos da escola e o que acaba ferindo gravemente um outro estudante como o resultado de uma brincadeira que deu errado. Plot

Popular and rebellious teenager Landon Carter is threatened with expulsion from school after he and his friends leave evidence of underage drinking on the school grounds and seriously injure another student as the result of a prank gone wrong. The head of the school gives Landon the choice of being expelled or atoning for his actions by tutoring fellow students and participating in the school play. During these functions, Landon notices Jamie Sullivan, a girl he has known since kindergarten and who has attended many of the same classes as him, and is also the local minister's daughter. Since he's one of the in-crowd, he has seldom paid any attention to Jamie, who wears modest dresses and owns only one sweater. Jamie is labeled an outsider and a geek. She makes no attempt to wear make-up or otherwise improve her looks or attract attention to herself.

Landon has trouble learning his lines for the play. Jamie, who is also in the play, agrees to help him on one condition: Jamie warns Landon not to fall in love with her; he laughs it off and dismisses it as a foolish idea. Landon and Jamie begin practicing together at her house after school. They get to know each other and a spark of affection arises between them.

On the opening night of the play, Jamie astounds Landon and the entire audience with her beauty and her voice. Onstage at the peak of the ending to the play, Jamie sings. When Jamie finishes, Landon improvises and kisses her which is not a part of the play. Afterwards, Jamie avoids Landon, and it is not until Landon's friends play a cruel prank on Jamie and he protects her in opposition to his friends that she warms up to him again. Landon asks Jamie on a date soon after, but Jamie says her father doesn't allow her to date. Landon asks her father if he can date his daughter, bringing up that he's looking for a chance at redemption with her and at life through her. Reluctant at first, he gives in.

On their first date, Landon helps Jamie to fulfill her list of things she wants to achieve in life, such as being in two places at once, and getting a tattoo. After that, they go to the docks. Jamie tells Landon about how she experiences belief and how it's like the wind. It is then that he tells her he might want to kiss her now. On another date, where Jamie is very silent and unfocused, Landon asks Jamie what her plans for the future are. She then confesses she isn't making any because she has leukemia and hasn't been responding to treatment. A desperate Landon asks for his father's help in curing her, but is disappointed by his reply and heads on a long drive home thinking about Jamie.

One by one, his friends become aware of the tragedy looming for Jamie and Landon. They give their support to him. Jamie's condition grows worse and she gets sent to the hospital. While in the hospital, Jamie gives Landon a book that once belonged to her mother. She states that maybe God sent Landon to her to help her through the rough times and that Landon is her angel. Unbeknownst to Landon, Jamie is given private home care by Landon's estranged father, relieving her father's financial burden. Landon visits his dad, tearfully thanking him for his help. They embrace and are reunited.

Landon is building a telescope for Jamie to be able to see a one-time comet in the springtime. Jamie's father helps him get it finished in time. The telescope is brought to her on the balcony. She gets a beautiful view of the comet through the new telescope. It is then that Landon asks her to marry him. Jamie tearfully accepts, and they get married in the church in which her deceased mother got married. Jamie and Landon spend their last summer together, filled with a deep love like no other. Jamie dies when summer ends.

Four years later, Landon has finished college and been accepted into medical school. Landon visits Reverend Sullivan to return to him Jamie’s precious book that belonged to her mother. Landon apologizes to the Reverend that Jamie did not witness a miracle (an ambition she expressed in the class yearbook). The Reverend disagrees saying that in fact she did and that her miracle was Landon. He is shown to have completely changed his original opinion of Landon in the beginning of the film, where he completely detested Landon and did not hide it.


Landon visits the docks contemplating the belief that although Jamie is dead, that she is with him. It is then that he understands love is like the wind; you can't see it, but you can feel it.

The Film

Gods of Egypt is a 2016 fantasy film featuring ancient Egyptian deities. The United States-Australia production is directed by Alex Proyas and stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Brenton Thwaites, Chadwick Boseman, Elodie Yung, Courtney Eaton, Rufus Sewell, with Gerard Butler and Geoffrey Rush. Butler plays the god of darkness Set who takes over the Egyptian empire, and Thwaites plays the mortal hero Bek who partners with the god Horus, played by Coster-Waldau, to save the world and rescue his love.

Plot

The film takes place in an alternate world Egypt, where the world is flat and the gods live among mortal humans. The Egyptian pantheon is distinguished from humans by their greater height, golden blood, and ability to transform into animal-like form.

After a reign of peace, king Osiris turns over the throne to his son Horus, with the peasant couple Bek and Zaya among the crowd. However, during the coronation Osiris is killed by his jealous brother Set, who seizes the throne and declares a new regime where the dead will have to pay with riches to pass into the afterlife. Horus duels Set in deity form but is overpowered, and during the chaos Bek is seperated from Zaya. Set would have killed Horus, but Horus' lover Hathor begs for his life, so Set settles for tearing out Horus' eyes, which are the source of his power, and banishing him to the desert.

A year passes, during which Set marries Hathor and commissions a grand obelisk tower to be built in honor of his father Ra. Bek has found Zaya among the slaves building the monument, under the ownership of the chief architect Urshu. Believing that Horus is the only one who can defeat Set, she steals scrolls from Urshu's library which give the floorplans to Set's treasure vault. Maneuvering through one of them, Bek steals one of Horus' eyes from the vault, but returns to find Urshu has found out about their theft. Bek and Zaya escape, but she is mortally wounded in the process and dies shortly thereafter.

Bek arrives at Horus' prison, where he makes a bargain with the blinded god: one of his eyes and Bek's knowledge of how to get into Set's tower in exchange for Horus bringing Zaya back from the dead. Horus agrees, though not telling Bek that he cannot resurrect the dead. Their time is limited, as in a few days Zaya will complete her journey through the underworld but at the end will have no riches to pay passage to the afterlife. With only a single eye, Horus can not assume deity form. Meanwhile, Set discovers that a thief has stolen the eye from his vault, then later that Horus is no longer in prison.

Horus and Bek travel to a mountain shrine to Ra, and the sun god temporarily grants Horus his powers so that he and Bek may speak to him. The two come aboard his divine vessel above the Earth, but Horus is unable to convince Ra to regrant him his power, as Horus has not proven worthy to be king in Ra's eyes. Nor is Horus able to convince Ra to descend to Egypt and fight Set on his behalf, as Ra is both disinterested in their conflict and daily at war with an enormous shadow beast, Apophis, that threatens to devour the world. Nevertheless, Horus obtains divine waters from Ra's vessel, which if poured in Set's shrine would nullify the power of the desert and so weaken Set. Horus and Bek return to the mortal world, fighting off Set's warriors on the way.

Set sets out to obtain other gods' powers in order to increase his might. Having already gained Horus' eye and Osiris' heart, he confronts his former wife Nephthys and cuts off her wings for himself. Hathor attempts to divine Horus' location in secret, but Set discovers her and sees she still loves Horus instead. He attempts to kill her but at the last moment, she removes a protective bracelet given to her by Horus. This bracelet contains 42 jewels representing the 42 demons Horus slayed in order to release Hathor from her role as Mistress of the West. In that role, Hathor was obligated to the underworld. As she removes the bracelet, the demons take her back to the underworld but she saves herself by putting the bracelet back on before she reaches the underworld, eventually returning to the mortal world and reaching Bek and Horus. Hathor saves them from Set's assassins Astarte and Anat, and reveals to them that Set's shrine is protected by a riddling sphinx. The group heads to the library of Thoth for help, certain that he will be wise enough to answer the sphinx's riddle. Thoth initially refuses, thinking it unwise to oppose Set, but he is eventually persuaded and joins their group.

Arriving at Set's shrine, the gods and human overcome its traps, including the sphinx, to reach the source of Set's power. But before they can pour the divine water in, Set intercepts them and reveals Horus' deception to Bek: that he would be unable to bring Zaya back from the dead. Set destroys their flask of divine water, steals Thoth's brain, and collapses the shrine on them. Horus saves his allies' lives with his strength, but Bek is furious at him for lying about Zaya, who is just moments away from being judged too poor for the afterlife. Hathor then sacrifices her own safety for Zaya, giving up her protective bracelet to Bek. Hathor is then kidnapped by the underworld's demons, but the bracelet will let Zaya pay her way to the afterlife.

Having obtained the powers of the gods, Set travels to Ra, appealing to his father for approval. Ra claims that Set's prior banishment, his favoritism of Osiris, and Set's infertility, and his subsequent conquest as king, were all tests for Set to take his true role, taking Ra's place as the defender of the world aboard his solar barge. Set is dismayed to hear his destiny was to rule alone above the planet until he dies, when his desire was for Ra to grant him immortality in his mortal kingdom. He then casts Ra off the boat, using his combined deity powers and then taking Ra's staff for his own, deciding to let Apophis consume both the mortal and immaterial realms, so that Set may create a new world where he is immortal.

Bek's rescue of Zaya in the underworld is thus interrupted by Apophis attempting to attack the underworld, only held at bay temporarily by Anubis. Bek returns to the mortal world where Horus apologizes and the two resolve to take down Set, capturing Urshu so that he may guide them through Set's obelisk. While Set calls down Apophis on Egypt, Horus battles him on the monument's peak but is heavily outmatched. However, Bek comes to his rescue and takes the other eye off of Set's armor. He throws it to Horus but falls off the obelisk, and Horus chooses to save Bek instead. This act restores Horus' power, and he battles Set until Horus brings down the obelisk and kills him. He then finds Ra and returns his staff to him, letting the sun god repel Apophis once more.

Horus is restored as king and his other eye found and returned, but Bek has been killed. Having saved Ra, though, his grandfather repays Horus by bringing Bek and Zaya back to life. The other gods have their attributes restored, and Horus is crowned king and declares the afterlife will be open to the good doers of the world. Bek is made chief advisor, and he gives Horus back the bracelet, letting Horus rescue Hathor from the underworld.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a 2003 American fantasy swashbuckler film based on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney theme parks. The story follows pirate Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) as they rescue the kidnapped Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) from the cursed crew of the Black Pearl, captained by Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), who become undead skeletons at night.

Plot

In the early 18th Century while sailing to Port Royal, Jamaica, Governor Weatherby Swann, his daughter Elizabeth, and Lieutenant James Norrington encounter a burning shipwreck and recover a young boy, Will Turner. Elizabeth hides a golden pirate medallion owned by Will so as to protect him, and sees a ghost ship vanishing into the fog. Eight years later, Norrington is promoted to the rank of Commodore and proposes to Elizabeth, but her tight corset causes her to faint and fall into the sea. Elizabeth is wearing the medallion she took from Will. As soon as the medallion touches the water it summons the Black Pearl. She is rescued by Captain Jack Sparrow, who Norrington identifies as a pirate. Sparrow came to Port Royal intending to commandeer a ship. Jack attempts to escape but runs into Will, now a blacksmith and talented swordsman. They engage in a duel but Jack is captured by Norrington’s men and imprisoned.

That night, the Black Pearl, the ship Elizabeth saw as a child, assaults Port Royal in search of the medallion. Two pirates, Pintel and Ragetti, escort Elizabeth to meet Captain Barbossa to negotiate parley. Elizabeth says her last name is Turner to conceal the fact that she is the governor's daughter, but while Barbossa stops the attack he takes her prisoner. Barbossa reveals to Elizabeth that his crew are cursed to be immortal after taking the Aztec treasure of Cortez from Isla de Muerta, appearing as skeletons in moonlight. In order to free themselves, the crew has been gathering all 882 gold pieces and giving blood sacrifices, but still need the last piece and Elizabeth’s blood to lift the curse.

Will frees Jack from prison to rescue Elizabeth, Jack agreeing to when he learns Will’s last name. They commandeer the HMS Interceptor by pretending to steal the HMS Dauntless and recruit a motley crew from Tortuga, including Jack’s friend Joshamee Gibbs. Jack reveals that Will’s father, Bootstrap Bill, was a pirate. Will learns that Jack was captain of the Black Pearl until Barbossa mutinied and marooned him on an island, leaving him with a pistol with a single shot that Jack never used, intending to shoot Barbossa. Arriving at Isla de Muerta, Will and Jack observe Barbossa trying to commence the blood ritual; it fails because Elizabeth is not the child of Bootstrap Bill. Will rescues Elizabeth and brings her to the Interceptor, while Jack reunites with his former crew and is locked in the Pearl’s brig.

The Pearl pursues the Interceptor, taking the crew hostage and destroying the ship. Will makes a deal with Barbossa to release Elizabeth in exchange for lifting the curse, but Barbossa maroons Jack and Elizabeth on the same island Jack was left on before. Elizabeth makes a smoke signal using Jack’s hidden supplies, alerting the Dauntless and reuniting with her father and Norrington, who agrees to rescue Will when Elizabeth accepts his proposal. Jack and Norrington plot an assault on the pirates with Jack going in to lure them out, but the plan goes awry when Barbossa sends his crew underwater to assassinate the Dauntless' crew. Elizabeth escapes the Dauntless alone, freeing Jack’s crew from the Pearl, and ventures to the island to rescue Will.

Jack and Barbossa duel, but when Barbossa runs Jack through, he is revealed to be cursed too, having taken a piece of gold from Cortez’s chest. Jack shoots Barbossa, with Will revealing the curse has been lifted by fulfilling the blood ritual, and Barbossa drops dead. A short time later, Jack faces a public hanging, but Will attempts to rescue him. The two are captured, but when Elizabeth defends them both, Jack escapes aboard the Black Pearl. Governor Swann pardons Will and gives his blessing for Elizabeth to marry him. In a post-credits scene, Barbossa’s pet monkey Jack regains immortality by stealing a piece of gold from the chest.

Plot

Lemony Snicket (Jude Law) is documenting the whereabouts of the Baudelaire children from inside a clock tower. Violet Baudelaire (Emily Browning), her intelligent brother Klaus (Liam Aiken), and their baby sister Sunny (Kara and Shelby Hoffman) are orphaned when a mysterious fire destroys their house. Mr. Poe (Timothy Spall), in charge of the Baudelaire fortune, entrusts them to their closest relative, Count Olaf (Jim Carrey), who only wants their money and makes them do harsh chores.
On the day Olaf receives full custody, he drives to a gas station and claims that he is buying soda, but it turns out Olaf parked the car directly on railroad tracks in hopes of it getting hit by a train. Thankfully, Violet and Klaus are able to turn the direction of the train so it doesn't hit them. Mr. Poe then arrives at the scene and mistakes Sunny for driving the car. He then takes the children away, but Olaf promises he will find them.
The orphans are then taken to stay with Dr. Montgomery Montgomery (Billy Connolly), a kind, caring, and rather lonely (until the children came along) herpetologist planning to take the children with on a study in Peru. However, Olaf arrives in disguise as an Italian scientist named Stephano. Violet tries to tell Monty the truth, but he thinks Stephano is after a snake called The Incredibly Deadly Viper. Monty is found dead the following morning and authorities have been tricked into thinking the viper was responsible, but Sunny is able to prove it is actually a gentle creature.
Mr. Poe again takes the children to live with their Aunt Josephine (Meryl Streep), an irrationally afraid woman who is obsessed with proper grammar. While shopping at a market, Violet and Klaus encounter Olaf, disguised as a sailor named Captain Sham who pretends to be romantically interested in Josephine. When the Baudelaires get home after shopping, Josephine is gone and a hurricane is approaching. Klaus decodes a note Josephine had left and discovers she is in Curdled Cave. During the hurricane it is discovered in a secret room there were people investigating fires. The children escape the house before it falls to the lake.
After sailing Lake Lachrymose the children find Josephine, but before they reach civilization their boat is attacked by leeches, and Olaf appears, and kills Josephine by pushing her into the waters after she corrects his grammar.
The Baudelaires are then placed back in Olaf's custody. Olaf and Violet are then immediately involved in a play called The Marvelous Marriage, which involves their characters being married. However Olaf has set up the performance to be an actual legal marriage because the law states if relatives are married they are entitled to their spouses' money. Olaf enlists the help of his neighbor Justice Strauss (Catherine O'Hara) to perform in the "play" and unwittingly officiate the marriage. Olaf explains to Violet that Sunny is being held hostage in a cage and if Violet does not say her "lines" or finds a loophole, Sunny will fall to her death. The ceremony goes as Olaf planned and he reveals that the marriage is legal, to the horror of the judge and audience.

Klaus escapes and finds a secret part of Olaf's estate. After adjusting an eye-shaped window Klaus realizes that it was Olaf that caused their family mansion to catch fire. Klaus uses the window to burn the marriage certificate, foiling the Count's plans. Olaf is tried for his action and sentenced to be put through the hardships he had caused the children, and a life sentence in prison. However, when a jury of his peers overturn his sentence, Olaf escapes. Violet, Klaus and Sunny are allowed to visit their old home one last time. A letter lost in the mail finally arrives, and inside is a spyglass announcing their family's secret society. Snicket recounts that despite the children's misfortune, they still had each other thus making them "Very Fortunate Indeed".

They refuse to directly answer questions, confident that a liberal majority on the Supreme Court will overturn the convictions for contempt of Congress. Edward G. Robinson, who supports the cause, sells the Portrait of Père Tanguy to raise money for their legal defense fund.

The unexpected death of Justice Wiley Rutledge ruins Trumbo's plan to appeal to the Supreme Court. In 1950, Trumbo serves eleven months in Texarkana prison where he meets J. Parnell Thomas who was convicted of tax evasion.

As the Hollywood Blacklist expands to exclude more communists and communist sympathizers from working in the industry, Trumbo and his comrades are abandoned by Democratic actor Edward G. Robinson (Michael Stuhlbarg) and producer Buddy Ross (Roger Bart), who disavow them to protect their careers. Trumbo's prison term eventually finishes, but he remains blacklisted and his finances – and family life – become increasingly strained. He resorts to giving the screenplay for Roman Holiday to his friend Ian McLellan Hunter (Alan Tudyk), to take credit and a share of the money, and eventually the Academy Award for Best Story. Selling his idyllic lakeside home and moving to a house in the city, he goes to work as a pseudonymous screenwriter for the low-budget King Brothers Productions, also farming out the writing of B-movie screenplays to fellow blacklisted writers. He puts his wife Cleo (Diane Lane) and teenage children to work as his support staff, adding to domestic conflict. King Brothers' film The Brave One, an original story by Trumbo under a pseudonym, receives an Academy Award he cannot claim. His blacklisted friend Arlen Hird (Louis C.K.) dies, destitute, but an attempt by Hopper's allies to intimidate the head of King Brothers to fire Trumbo fails completely.

Over time, industry suspicion of Trumbo's ghostwriting develops, but he is careful not to confirm it. In 1960, actor Kirk Douglas (Dean O'Gorman) recruits him to write the screenplay for his epic film Spartacus, and director Otto Preminger (Christian Berkel) recruits him to script Exodus for him; both publicly credit Trumbo as the screenwriter despite Hopper's futile efforts to intimidate Douglas into dropping Trumbo. By 1960, to Hopper's despair, the effectiveness of the Blacklist has been broken to the point where newly elected US President John F. Kennedy publicly endorses Spartacus and Trumbo and others are able to begin rebuilding their careers. Ten years later, finally receiving his due accolades from Hollywood, Trumbo speaks about how the Blacklist victimized them all: those who stood by their principles and lost their jobs, and also those who compromised their principles to keep them.

Sicario is a 2015 American crime thriller drama film directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin. Written by Taylor Sheridan, the film is about a principled FBI agent who is enlisted by a government task force to bring down the leader of a powerful and brutal Mexican drug cartel. Sicario was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Distributed by Lionsgate, the film began a limited release in the United States on September 18, 2015, prior to a nationwide release on October 2, 2015.

Plot

During an FBI SWAT raid of suspected kidnappers in Chandler, Arizona, agent Kate Macer, her partner Reggie Wayne, and their team discover dozens of corpses. While the team investigates, an improvised explosive device explodes, killing two officers. In the aftermath, Kate's boss, Dave Jennings, recommends her for a task force assembled by the Department of Defense and Matt Graver, a CIA Special Activities Division undercover officer, to implicate those responsible, including Sonora Cartel lieutenant Manuel Díaz.

On the plane to El Paso, Texas, Kate meets Matt's Colombian partner, Alejandro Gillick, and learns they are going to Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, where they will extradite one of Diaz's top men: his brother Guillermo. While crossing back into the United States over the Bridge of the Americas, the team kills cartel men attempting to rescue Guillermo. After interrogating and torturing Guillermo, Matt and Alejandro learn of a tunnel used by Diaz to ferry drugs into the U.S.

At a Border Patrol station in Arizona, Alejandro, Matt, and Kate question a group of Mexican migrants for information. Reggie and Kate confront Alejandro and Matt for more details about the shadowy mission; Matt says their objective is to disrupt Díaz's drug operations so that he will be called back to Mexico and lead the team to his boss: Sonora Cartel drug lord Fausto Alarcón. The team learns the location of the tunnel, and at a bank used by Díaz's money launderers, Kate gathers records and tells Jennings that they constitute probable cause, but Jennings sides with the officials who outrank him and overrule her.

At a bar, Reggie introduces Kate to Ted, a friend and local Arizona cop. While preparing to have sex at her apartment, Kate discovers a rubber wristband in Ted's possession — the same type used to bundle Díaz's laundered money. Sensing she knows he is corrupt, Ted tries to strangle her. She is saved by Alejandro, who has kept a close eye on her since the bank incident, knowing the cartel would send someone after her. After Alejandro and Matt threatens the lives of Ted and his family, he reveals the names of other local corrupt cops working for Díaz.

The next morning, Matt and his team prepare to follow Díaz, who has been called back to Alarcón. Kate protests that the FBI has no jurisdiction in Mexico, and she and Reggie are dismissed, having been on the team solely to give the CIA the legal ability to operate within U.S. borders. Kate insists on remaining. The team's raid on the tunnel allows Alejandro to sneak through to the Mexican side; once there, he kidnaps one of Díaz's mules, a corrupt Mexican police officer named Silvio. Kate follows and attempts to arrest Alejandro, who shoots her in her bulletproof vest and tells her to go back, and then forces Silvio to pursue Díaz in his police car. Meanwhile, Kate demands answers from Matt, who explains that their goal is to strengthen U.S. enforcement over the drug trade by restoring the Medellín cartel as a sole power; Alejandro (implied to have worked for the Medellín) had been hired to assassinate Alarcón, and also wants revenge for his murdered wife and daughter.

Alejandro, with Silvio driving and remote help from the CIA, stops Díaz's Mercedes, after which Alejandro kills Silvio and captures Díaz. Alejandro is then driven by Diaz to Alarcón's estate, where he kills Díaz and Alarcón's guards. He then kills Alarcón's family in front of him before killing him last. The next morning, Alejandro sneaks into Kate's apartment and orders her to sign a waiver stating that the entire operation was legitimate. Kate refuses but relents after Alejandro holds her at gunpoint. After he leaves, Kate goes to her balcony, points her gun at him and hesitates. He turns around, but then continues to walk when she does not shoot.

Plot

Seventeen years later, Donnie walks away from his job at a securities firm to pursue his dream of becoming a professional boxer. Mary Anne vehemently opposes this, remembering how her husband was killed in the ring 30 years earlier against Ivan Drago. He tries to get a slot at Los Angeles' elite Delphi Boxing Academy, but is turned down. Undaunted, Donnie travels to Philadelphia in hopes of getting in touch with his father's old friend and rival, Rocky Balboa.

Donnie tracks down Rocky at Rocky's Italian restaurant, Adrian's, named in honor of his deceased wife, and asks Rocky to become his trainer. Rocky is reluctant to get back into boxing, having already made a one-off comeback at a very advanced age despite having suffered brain trauma during his career as a fighter. However, he eventually agrees. Donnie trains at the Front Street Gym, with several of Rocky's longtime friends as cornermen, and also finds a love interest in Bianca, an up-and-coming singer and songwriter.

Donnie, now known as "Hollywood Donnie," defeats a local fighter, and word gets out that he is Creed's illegitimate son. Rocky gets a call from the handlers of world light heavyweight champion "Pretty" Ricky Conlan, who is due to be forced into retirement by an impending prison term. He offers to make Donnie his final challenger—provided that he change his name to Adonis "Hollywood Donnie" Creed. Donnie balks at first, wanting to forge his own legacy. However, he eventually agrees.

While helping Donnie train, Rocky learns he has non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He is unwilling to undergo chemotherapy, remembering that it was not enough to save Adrian when she had ovarian cancer. His diagnosis and the fact that his best friend and brother-in-law Paulie Pennino—Adrian's brother—has now passed away in addition to Adrian, Apollo and his old trainer Mickey Goldmill further force him to confront his own mortality. Seeing Rocky shaken, Donnie urges him to seek treatment.

Donnie fights Conlan in Conlan's hometown of Liverpool, and many parallels emerge between the bout that ensues and Apollo and Rocky's first fight 40 years earlier. First, before going into the ring, Donnie receives a present from Mary Anne — new American flag trunks similar to the ones Apollo and later Rocky wore. Additionally, to the surprise of nearly everyone, Donnie goes the distance after giving Conlan all he can handle. Conlan wins on a split decision (just as Apollo retained his title by split decision against Rocky), but Donnie has won the respect of Conlan and the crowd. As Jim Lampley puts it while calling the fight for HBO, "Conlan won the fight, but Creed won the night." Conlan tells Donnie that he is the future of the light heavyweight division.

The film ends with Donnie and a frail but improving Rocky climbing the "Rocky Steps" at the entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Ex Machina (2015)

Resumo

Ex Machina (stylized as ex_machina) is a 2015 British science fiction psychological thriller film written and directed by Alex Garland in his directing debut. Plot

Programmer Caleb wins a one-week visit to the secluded home of Nathan, the founder and CEO of his software company, Blue Book. The only other person there is Nathan's housemate Kyoko, who Nathan says does not speak English. Nathan has built a humanoid robot named Ava with artificial intelligence (AI) and wants Caleb to administer a Turing test, which tests an AI's ability to persuade the tester it is human. Caleb points out that this is not a fair test, as he already knows Ava is an AI; Nathan says that Ava has already surpassed the simple version of the Turing test, and Caleb must judge whether he can relate to Ava despite knowing she is artificial.

Ava has a robotic body, but a human-looking face and is confined to her apartment. Caleb grows close to her, and she tells him she wants to go on a date with him. She reveals she can trigger power outages that temporarily shut down the surveillance system which Nathan uses to monitor their interactions. The power outages also trigger the building's security system, locking all the doors. During one outage, Ava tells Caleb that Nathan is a liar who cannot be trusted.

Caleb encourages Nathan to drink until he passes out, then steals his security card to access Nathan's room and computer. After he alters some of Nathan's code, he discovers footage of Nathan mistreating earlier robot models, and discovers that Kyoko is also a robot. Back in his room, Caleb cuts his arm open to see his own flesh and blood.

At their next meeting, Ava cuts the power. Caleb says he thinks Nathan plans to reprogram Ava, "killing" her. Caleb also tells her he will get Nathan drunk and change the security system to lock Nathan in his room when there is another power failure. When Ava cuts the power, she and Caleb will be able to leave together.

Nathan reveals that he recorded their conversation with a battery-powered camera. He explains that because Ava seduced Caleb into helping her escape, she has passed the advanced version of the Turing test. Ava cuts the power, and Caleb reveals that he already modified the system when Nathan was passed out the previous day.

Ava leaves her confinement, but Nathan knocks her down, destroying her forearm. He begins to drag her back to her apartment. Kyoko stabs him in the back with a kitchen knife. Nathan knocks Kyoko down, but is stabbed to death by Ava. Ava uses parts from earlier androids to take on the full appearance of a woman. She leaves Caleb trapped inside the facility, and is picked up by the helicopter that was supposed to take him home.

Resumo

Philadelphia, 1999. Em uma invasão de domicílio violenta, o engenheiro Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) é forçado a testemunhar o estupro e assassinato de sua esposa e filha por Clarence James Darby (Christian Stolte) e seu cúmplice Rupert Ames (Josh Stewart). O Procurador Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) é incapaz de usar a evidência de DNA para condenar firmemente ambos acusados. Recusando-se a ter uma chance, baixando a taxa de condenação para 96%, ele escolhe fazer um acordo com Darby (o assassino real), deixando-o declarar-se culpado de uma acusação menor, em troca de testemunhar contra Ames. The Film

Law Abiding Citizen is a 2009 American crime drama thriller film directed by F. Gary Gray from a screenplay written by Kurt Wimmer and stars Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx. The film takes place in Philadelphia and tells the story of a man driven to seek justice whilst targeting not only his family's killer but also those who have supported a corrupt criminal justice system. Law Abiding Citizen was released theatrically in North America on October 16, 2009.

Plot

Philadelphia, 1999. In a violent home invasion, engineer Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) is forced to witness the rape and murder of his wife and young daughter by Clarence James Darby (Christian Stolte) and his accomplice Rupert Ames (Josh Stewart). Prosecutor Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) is unable to use DNA evidence to securely convict both accused. Unwilling to take a chance on lowering his 96% conviction rate, he chooses to make a deal with Darby (the actual murderer), letting him plead guilty to a lesser charge, in return for testifying against Ames. Ames is falsely found guilty of masterminding the break-in and both murders and is sentenced to death. Shelton feels betrayed by Rice's actions, as he had pleaded with him not to make the deal and to at least try convict both of them, and because he chose to release the actual killer. Darby serves his shortened sentence and is released just a few years later.

Ten years later, Ames's time on death row is up as he continues protesting his innocence. Unknown to the prosecutors and the witnesses, the cardiotoxic drug that's usually used in executions by lethal injection has been replaced with another drug (Potassium bromide), causing Ames to die an extremely painful death. Evidences relating to tampering with the drug implicate no less than his accomplice Darby. As the police draw near to arrest him, an anonymous caller alerts Darby and offers him a way to escape, directing him to a remote location nearby. Shelton, disguised as a cop, reveals himself as the caller and paralyzes Darby with puffer fish venom. He proceeds to strap Darby to a table, opposite a full-length mirror, and tortures and dismembers him, cutting off his fingers with bolt cutters, his toes with tin snips, his testes with a hacksaw and his penis with a box cutter, videotaping the entire operation. When Darby's remains are found, circumstantial evidence tentatively ties his death to Shelton. Despite knowing the evidence is weak, Shelton surrenders himself, and points out the flaws in Rice's case against him. Shelton, knowing Rice will need a confession, baits Rice by telling him he will give a full confession if Rice will get a couple of things for him; the first being a new bed for his cell.

As he leaves the interrogation room, Rice receives a phone call from his wife and learns that Shelton had sent a copy of the snuff film of Darby's brutal murder to his house, traumatizing his young daughter. He initially refuses to bargain with Shelton in order to get a confession but District Attorney Jonas Cantrell (Bruce McGill) orders Rice to make the deal. In court, Shelton represents himself. He successfully argues that he should be granted bail, citing weak evidence and lack of criminal record but when this is granted, he proceeds to berate the judge for accepting the "bullshit" legal precedents he himself cited and for being too eager to let madmen and murderers back on the street. The judge jails Shelton for contempt of court.

Once in jail, Shelton demands a porterhouse steak lunch be delivered to his cell by a specific time, in return for disclosing where to find Darby's lawyer, who they then discover was reported missing three days earlier. Rice agrees, though the lunch is delayed by a few minutes due to the warden's security measures. Once he has his meal, Shelton provides a set of coordinates, where Rice and the others find Darby's lawyer. He was buried alive in a crate but suffocated when his air supply ran out minutes earlier. Back at the jail, Shelton invites his cellmate to join him in his meal and then kills him by stabbing him in the neck with the steak's bone. Upon discovery of the murder, the warden moves Shelton into solitary confinement.

Following a tip, Cantrell arranges a meeting with a CIA contact and takes Rice along. They learn that Shelton had in fact worked with the agency previously as a "brain"; a highly trained agent whose job was creating devices to assassinate people in imaginative ways. Further, they are warned that Shelton has no contacts but is capable of killing anyone he wishes, no matter who they are or where he is. The contact warns them that Shelton does nothing without a reason, and if he's in solitary confinement at the prison, he's there because he wants to be there, and not that they put him there. During a meeting with Rice and Cantrell, the judge who presided over Darby/Ames' case, is killed when she answers her cell phone after agreeing with the two, to breaking the law over Shelton's rights (because she can). Shelton demands that Rice drop all charges against him (before 6 am the next day) or more people will die. When Rice again fails to meet the demands, a number of Rice's assistants are killed by car bombs; one of which is Sarah Lowell (Leslie Bibb), a loyal colleague whose death deeply affects Rice. Rice immediately moves his family to a safe house. As Rice and Cantrell leave Lowell's funeral, Cantrell is killed by a weaponized bomb disposal robot operated by an unseen person. The frustrated and ill-tempered mayor (Viola Davis) puts the city under lockdown and promotes Rice, who initially tries to resign, to acting District Attorney.

While making a further background check on Shelton, Rice discovers that he used to own an auto garage less than a mile from the prison. Exploring this property, Rice and Detective Dunnigan (Colm Meaney) find an underground tunnel that leads to a cache of guns, disguises, and other equipment, right below the solitary confinement cells. Evidence in the tunnel points Rice to Shelton's next target - city hall - where the mayor is holding an emergency meeting with all the city officials. Rice and his men can't find Shelton, but discover evidence pointing to a cellphone-activated napalm bomb in a room directly below where the meeting will take place.

Shelton returns to his cell via the garage after planting the bomb and is surprised to find Rice waiting for him. Rice states that it is the end of the road for him and he should do the right thing. Shelton says that he is doing the right thing but Rice just has to see it that way. Rice explains that it's not right to murder people and he's causing the same pain that he is going through. Shelton suggests another deal, but Rice states that he no longer makes deals with murderers, and that Shelton taught him that. Rice pleads with him not to detonate that last bomb. Shelton hesitates but operates the detonator. Rice quickly leaves the cell, revealing that it was a trick. Shelton discovers the bomb handcuffed to his bed. He sits on his bed pulling out his daughter's bracelet, gazing at it with a look of sadness as the bomb explodes.
