Ex Machina  é um filme britânico de suspense psicológico e ficção científica de 2015,  escrito e dirigido por Alex Garland em sua estréia na direção. É estrelado por Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander e Oscar Isaac. Ex Machina conta a história do programador Caleb Smith (Gleeson), que é convidado pelo seu empregador, o excêntrico bilionário Nathan Bateman (Isaac), para administrar o teste de Turing para um andróide com a inteligência artificial (Vikander).

Resumo

O Programador Caleb ganha uma visita de uma semana para a casa isolada de Nathan, o fundador e CEO de sua empresa de software, Blue Book. A única pessoa que há na casa de Nathan é Kyoko, que Nathan diz não fala Inglês. Nathan construiu um robô humanóide chamado Ava com a inteligência artificial (AI) e quer Caleb para administrar um teste de Turing, que testa a capacidade de um AI para persuadir o testador humano. Caleb salienta que este não é um teste justo, pois ele já sabe que Ava é um AI; Nathan diz que Ava já ultrapassou a versão simples do teste de Turing, e Caleb deve julgar se ele pode se relacionar com Ava apesar de saber que ela é artificial.

Ava tem um corpo robótico, mas um rosto com aparência humana e está confinada em seu apartamento. Caleb cresce perto dela, e ela diz que quer ir a um encontro com ela. Ela revela que ela pode provocar falhas de energia que fecham temporariamente o sistema de vigilância que Nathan usa para controlar suas interações. Os cortes de energia também desencadeam o sistema de segurança do prédio, trancando todas as portas. Durante uma interrupção, Ava diz a Caleb que Nathan é um mentiroso e que não pode ser confiável.

Caleb incentiva Nathan a beber até que ele saia, em seguida, rouba seu cartão de segurança para acessar a sala e o computador de Nathan. Depois que ele altera alguns dos códigos de Nathan, ele descobre imagens de Nathan maltratando modelos de robôs anteriores, e descobre que Kyoko também é um robô. De volta ao quarto, Caleb corta seu braço para ver a sua própria carne e sangue.

Na sua próxima reunião, Ava corta a energia. Caleb diz que acha que Nathan planeja reprogramar Ava, "matando" a ela. Caleb também diz a ela que ele vai fazer Nathan ficar bêbado para mudar o sistema de segurança e bloquear Nathan em seu quarto quando houver outra falha de energia. Quando Ava corta o poder, ela e Caleb são capazes de sair juntos.

Nathan revela que gravou a conversa com uma câmera alimentada por bateria. Ele explica que, Ava seduziu Caleb ao ajudá-lo na sua fuga, ela passou a versão avançada do teste de Turing. Ava corta o poder, e Caleb revela que ele já modificou o sistema quando Nathan estava desmaiado no dia anterior.

Ava deixa seu confinamento, mas Nathan bate-a, destruindo seu antebraço. Ele começa a arrastá-la de volta para seu apartamento. Kyoko apunhala pelas costas com uma faca de cozinha. Nathan bate  em Kyoko, mas é esfaqueado até a morte por Ava. Ava utiliza peças de andróides anteriores para assumir a aparência total de uma mulher. Ela deixa Caleb preso dentro da instalação, e é captada pelo helicóptero que deveria levá-lo para casa.

The Film

Ex Machina (stylized as ex_machina) is a 2015 British science fiction psychological thriller film written and directed by Alex Garland in his directing debut. It stars Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander and Oscar Isaac. Ex Machina tells the story of programmer Caleb Smith (Gleeson) who is invited by his employer, the eccentric billionaire Nathan Bateman (Isaac), to administer the Turing test to an android with artificial intelligence (Vikander).

Plot

Programmer Caleb wins a one-week visit to the secluded home of Nathan, the founder and CEO of his software company, Blue Book. The only other person there is Nathan's housemate Kyoko, who Nathan says does not speak English. Nathan has built a humanoid robot named Ava with artificial intelligence (AI) and wants Caleb to administer a Turing test, which tests an AI's ability to persuade the tester it is human. Caleb points out that this is not a fair test, as he already knows Ava is an AI; Nathan says that Ava has already surpassed the simple version of the Turing test, and Caleb must judge whether he can relate to Ava despite knowing she is artificial.

Ava has a robotic body, but a human-looking face and is confined to her apartment. Caleb grows close to her, and she tells him she wants to go on a date with him. She reveals she can trigger power outages that temporarily shut down the surveillance system which Nathan uses to monitor their interactions. The power outages also trigger the building's security system, locking all the doors. During one outage, Ava tells Caleb that Nathan is a liar who cannot be trusted.

Caleb encourages Nathan to drink until he passes out, then steals his security card to access Nathan's room and computer. After he alters some of Nathan's code, he discovers footage of Nathan mistreating earlier robot models, and discovers that Kyoko is also a robot. Back in his room, Caleb cuts his arm open to see his own flesh and blood.

At their next meeting, Ava cuts the power. Caleb says he thinks Nathan plans to reprogram Ava, "killing" her. Caleb also tells her he will get Nathan drunk and change the security system to lock Nathan in his room when there is another power failure. When Ava cuts the power, she and Caleb will be able to leave together.

Nathan reveals that he recorded their conversation with a battery-powered camera. He explains that because Ava seduced Caleb into helping her escape, she has passed the advanced version of the Turing test. Ava cuts the power, and Caleb reveals that he already modified the system when Nathan was passed out the previous day.

Ava leaves her confinement, but Nathan knocks her down, destroying her forearm. He begins to drag her back to her apartment. Kyoko stabs him in the back with a kitchen knife. Nathan knocks Kyoko down, but is stabbed to death by Ava. Ava uses parts from earlier androids to take on the full appearance of a woman. She leaves Caleb trapped inside the facility, and is picked up by the helicopter that was supposed to take him home.
