Desventuras em série é um filme americano de fantasia, comédia e humor negro de 2004, dirigido por Brad Silberling. É uma adaptação cinematográfica de uma série de eventos infelizes que aconteceram para Lemony Snicket, abrangendo os três primeiros livros Mau Começo, A Sala dos Répteis, e da ampla janela. É estrelado por Jim Carrey como o conde Olaf, vilão que adota três irmãos órfãos ricos em uma tentativa de roubar a fortuna dos seus pais.
Resumo
Lemony Snicket (Jude Law) está documentando o paradeiro das crianças Baudelaire do interior de uma torre do relógio. Violet Baudelaire (Emily Browning), seu irmão inteligente Klaus (Liam Aiken), e sua irmãzinha Sol (Kara e Shelby Hoffman) ficam órfãos quando um misterioso incêndio destrói sua casa. Poe (Timothy Spall), fica encarregado da fortuna dos Baudelaire, e confiá-los a seu parente mais próximo, o conde Olaf (Jim Carrey), que só quer seu dinheiro e coloca-os para fazerem tarefas duras.
No dia em que Olaf recebe a custódia total, ele dirige a um posto de gasolina e afirma que ele está indo comprar refrigerante, mas, na verdade, Olaf estacionou o carro diretamente sobre trilhos de trem, na esperança de que fossem atropelados por um trem. Felizmente, Violet e Klaus são capazes de mudar a direção para que eles não sejam atingidos pelo trem. Sr. Poe, em seguida, chega à cena e os erros de sol, dirigindo o carro. Monty é encontrado morto no dia seguinte, a gaiola da víbora incrivelmente mortífera é encontrada aberta e as autoridades têm sido levado a pensar que a víbora foi responsável, mas Sunny consegue provar que é realmente uma criatura delicada.
Poe novamente leva as crianças a viver com sua tia Josephine (Meryl Streep), uma mulher irracional que está obcecado com a gramática. Enquanto faz compras em um mercado, Violet e Klaus encontram Olaf, disfarçado de marinheiro, chamado de capitão Sham que finge estar romanticamente interessado em Josephine. Quando os Baudelaire chegam em casa após a compra, Josephine se foi e um furacão está se aproximando. Klaus decodifica uma nota que Josephine tinha deixado e descobre que ela está na coalhada Cave. Durante o furacão, descobrem em uma sala secreta que havia pessoas que investigaram os incêndios. As crianças escapam da casa antes de cair para o lago.
Depois de navegarem pelo Lago Lacrimoso as crianças encontram Josephine, mas antes que eles atinjam a civilização seu barco é atacado por sanguessugas, e Olaf aparece e mata Josephine, empurrando-a para as águas depois que ela corrige sua gramática.
Os Baudelaire são então colocados de volta na custódia de Olaf. Olaf e Violet são então imediatamente envolvido em uma peça chamada O casamento maravilhoso, que envolve seus personagens sendo casados. No entanto Olaf criou o desempenho para ser um casamento legal real, porque a lei estabelece que se os parentes são casados têm direito a dinheiro de seus cônjuges. Olaf pede a ajuda de sua vizinha a Juiza Strauss (Catherine O'Hara) para executar no "play" e inconscientemente oficiar o casamento. Klaus foge e encontra uma parte secreta da propriedade de Olaf. Após o ajuste de uma janela em forma de olho, Klaus percebe que Olaf causou o incêndio para mansão tornar-se ruínas. Klaus queima a certidão de casamento, frustrando os planos do conde. Ele é preso e forçado a servir uma sentença de prisão perpétua, e todas as dificuldades que ele tinha colocado sobre as crianças. Violet, Klaus e Sunny estão autorizados a visitar sua antiga casa pela última vez. Uma carta perdido no correio finalmente chega, e no interior tem uma luneta anunciando uma sociedade secreta da sua família. O filme termina com as crianças sendo "muito feliz de fato".

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events is a 2004 American black comedy fantasy film directed by Brad Silberling. It is a film adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, covering the first three books The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, and The Wide Window. The film stars Jim Carrey as the villainous Count Olaf who adopts three wealthy orphan siblings in an attempts to steal their late parents' fortune.
Plot
Lemony Snicket (Jude Law) is documenting the whereabouts of the Baudelaire children from inside a clock tower. Violet Baudelaire (Emily Browning), her intelligent brother Klaus (Liam Aiken), and their baby sister Sunny (Kara and Shelby Hoffman) are orphaned when a mysterious fire destroys their house. Mr. Poe (Timothy Spall), in charge of the Baudelaire fortune, entrusts them to their closest relative, Count Olaf (Jim Carrey), who only wants their money and makes them do harsh chores.
On the day Olaf receives full custody, he drives to a gas station and claims that he is buying soda, but it turns out Olaf parked the car directly on railroad tracks in hopes of it getting hit by a train. Thankfully, Violet and Klaus are able to turn the direction of the train so it doesn't hit them. Mr. Poe then arrives at the scene and mistakes Sunny for driving the car. He then takes the children away, but Olaf promises he will find them.
The orphans are then taken to stay with Dr. Montgomery Montgomery (Billy Connolly), a kind, caring, and rather lonely (until the children came along) herpetologist planning to take the children with on a study in Peru. However, Olaf arrives in disguise as an Italian scientist named Stephano. Violet tries to tell Monty the truth, but he thinks Stephano is after a snake called The Incredibly Deadly Viper. Monty is found dead the following morning and authorities have been tricked into thinking the viper was responsible, but Sunny is able to prove it is actually a gentle creature.
Mr. Poe again takes the children to live with their Aunt Josephine (Meryl Streep), an irrationally afraid woman who is obsessed with proper grammar. While shopping at a market, Violet and Klaus encounter Olaf, disguised as a sailor named Captain Sham who pretends to be romantically interested in Josephine. When the Baudelaires get home after shopping, Josephine is gone and a hurricane is approaching. Klaus decodes a note Josephine had left and discovers she is in Curdled Cave. During the hurricane it is discovered in a secret room there were people investigating fires. The children escape the house before it falls to the lake.
After sailing Lake Lachrymose the children find Josephine, but before they reach civilization their boat is attacked by leeches, and Olaf appears, and kills Josephine by pushing her into the waters after she corrects his grammar.
The Baudelaires are then placed back in Olaf's custody. Olaf and Violet are then immediately involved in a play called The Marvelous Marriage, which involves their characters being married. However Olaf has set up the performance to be an actual legal marriage because the law states if relatives are married they are entitled to their spouses' money. Olaf enlists the help of his neighbor Justice Strauss (Catherine O'Hara) to perform in the "play" and unwittingly officiate the marriage. Olaf explains to Violet that Sunny is being held hostage in a cage and if Violet does not say her "lines" or finds a loophole, Sunny will fall to her death. The ceremony goes as Olaf planned and he reveals that the marriage is legal, to the horror of the judge and audience.
Klaus escapes and finds a secret part of Olaf's estate. After adjusting an eye-shaped window Klaus realizes that it was Olaf that caused their family mansion to catch fire. Klaus uses the window to burn the marriage certificate, foiling the Count's plans. Olaf is tried for his action and sentenced to be put through the hardships he had caused the children, and a life sentence in prison. However, when a jury of his peers overturn his sentence, Olaf escapes. Violet, Klaus and Sunny are allowed to visit their old home one last time. A letter lost in the mail finally arrives, and inside is a spyglass announcing their family's secret society. Snicket recounts that despite the children's misfortune, they still had each other thus making them "Very Fortunate Indeed".
