O filme foi dirigido por Peyton Reed, com um roteiro escrito por Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish e Adam McKay & Paul Rudd, e contam com estrelas como Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Tip "T. Sinopse

Em 1989, o cientista Hank Pym renuncia S.H.I.E.L.D. depois de descobrir sua tentativa de replicar sua tecnologia encolhendo homem formiga. Acreditando que a tecnologia é perigosa, Pym promete escondê-la enquanto ele vive. Nos dias atuais, a filha distante de Pym, Hope van Dyne, e ex-protegido, Darren Cross, o forçaram a sair de sua empresa, Pym Technologies. Cruz está perto de aperfeiçoar um terno encolhimento de sua autoria, o Yellowjacket, que horroriza Pym.

Após a sua libertação da prisão, o bem-intencionado ladrão Scott Lang vai morar com seu antigo companheiro de cela, Luis. Ao visitar sua filha Cassie sem aviso prévio, Lang é repreendido por sua ex-esposa Maggie e seu noivo policial detetive, Paxton, por não fornecer apoio à criança. Incapaz de manter um emprego por causa de sua ficha criminal, Lang concorda em se juntar a equipe de Luis e cometer um roubo. Lang invade uma casa, mas só encontra o que ele acredita ser uma roupa de motociclista velha, que ele leva para casa. Depois de usar o traje, Lang acidentalmente encolhe-se ao tamanho de um inseto. Aterrorizado pela experiência, ele devolve o traje para a casa, mas é preso na saída. Pym, o proprietário, visita Lang na cadeia e contrabandeia o traje em seu celular para ajudá-lo a sair.

Em sua casa, Pym, que manipulou Lang através de um desconhecido de Luis a roubar a roupa como um teste, quer Lang para se tornar o novo Homem-Formiga a fim de roubar o Yellowjacket de Cross. Depois de descobrir as intenções de Cross, van Dyne ajuda Pym treina Lang para lutar e controlar formigas. Enquanto van Dyne abriga ressentimento para com Pym sobre a morte de sua mãe Janet, ele revela que Janet, conhecida como a Vespa, desapareceu em um reino quântico subatômica para desativar um míssil nuclear soviético. Pym adverte Lang que ele poderia sofrer um destino semelhante se ele substituir o regulador de seu traje. Eles enviá-o para roubar um dispositivo que vai ajudá-lo e ele vai assaltar o quartel-general dos Vingadores, onde ele luta brevemente com Sam Wilson.

Cross aperfeiçoa a Yellowjacket e abriga uma cerimônia de inauguração na sede Pym Technologies. Lang, junto com sua tripulação e um enxame de formigas voadoras, se infiltra no edifício durante o evento, sabota os servidores da empresa, e planta explosivos. Quando ele tenta roubar o Yellowjacket, ele, juntamente com Pym e Hope, são capturados por Cross, que pretende vender tanto o Yellowjacket e trajes do Homem-Formiga para Hydra, liderada pelo ex-oficial S.H.I.E.L.D Mitchell Carson. Lang se liberta e ele e Hope despacham a maioria dos agentes da Hydra, embora Carson é capaz de fugir com um frasco de partículas, Cross baleia Pym. Lang persegue Cross quando ele escapa, enquanto os explosivos detonam o edifício. Pym e van Dyne escapam dirigindo um Tanque russo T-34  da 2ª Guerra Mundial disfarçado como chaveiro de Pym, que ele usou suas partículas.

Cross veste o Yellowjacket e ataca Lang. Lang antes é preso por Paxton. Sua mente confusa pela tecnologia encolhedora imperfeita, Cross leva Cassie refém para atrair Lang em outra luta. Lang substitui o regulador e encolhe ao tamanho subatômico para penetrar o terno de Cross e sabotá-lo a diminuir de forma incontrolável, matando Cross. Lang desaparece no reino do quantum, mas consegue reverter os efeitos e retorna para o mundo macroscópico. Em gratidão por heroísmo de Lang, Paxton cobre para Lang para mantê-lo fora da prisão. Vendo que Lang sobreviveu e voltou do reino do quantum, Pym se pergunta se sua esposa está viva e bem. Mais tarde, Lang reúne-se com Luis, que lhe diz que Wilson está procurando por ele.

Em uma cena meados dos créditos, Pym mostra a van Dyne um novo protótipo do traje de vespa e oferece a ela. Em uma cena pós-créditos, Wilson e Steve Rogers tem Bucky Barnes sob sua custódia. Não foi possível contactar Tony Stark por causa de "os acordos", Wilson menciona que ele conhece alguém que poderia ajudar.

Plot

In 1989, scientist Hank Pym resigns from S.H.I.E.L.D. after discovering their attempt to replicate his Ant-Man shrinking technology. Believing the technology is dangerous, Pym vows to hide it as long as he lives. In the present day, Pym's estranged daughter, Hope van Dyne, and former protégé, Darren Cross, have forced him out of his company, Pym Technologies. Cross is close to perfecting a shrinking suit of his own, the Yellowjacket, which horrifies Pym.

Upon his release from prison, well-meaning thief Scott Lang moves in with his old cellmate, Luis. While visiting his daughter Cassie unannounced, Lang is rebuked by his former wife Maggie and her police-detective fiancé, Paxton, for not providing child support. Unable to hold a job because of his criminal record, Lang agrees to join Luis' crew and commit a burglary. Lang breaks into a house and cracks its safe, but only finds what he believes to be an old motorcycle suit, which he takes home. After trying the suit on, Lang accidentally shrinks himself to the size of an insect. Terrified by the experience, he returns the suit to the house, but is arrested on the way out. Pym, the homeowner, visits Lang in jail and smuggles the suit into his cell to help him break out.

At his home, Pym, who manipulated Lang through an unknowing Luis into stealing the suit as a test, wants Lang to become the new Ant-Man to steal the Yellowjacket from Cross. Having been spying on Cross after discovering his intentions, van Dyne helps Pym train Lang to fight and to control ants. While van Dyne harbors resentment towards Pym about her mother Janet's death, he reveals that Janet, known as the Wasp, disappeared into a subatomic quantum realm to disable a Soviet nuclear missile. Pym warns Lang that he could suffer a similar fate if he overrides his suit's regulator. They send him to steal a device that will aid their heist from the Avengers' headquarters, where he briefly fights Sam Wilson.

Cross perfects the Yellowjacket and hosts an unveiling ceremony at Pym Technologies' headquarters. Lang, along with his crew and a swarm of flying ants, infiltrates the building during the event, sabotages the company's servers, and plants explosives. When he attempts to steal the Yellowjacket, he, along with Pym and Hope, are captured by Cross, who intends to sell both the Yellowjacket and Ant-Man suits to Hydra, led by former S.H.I.E.L.D officer Mitchell Carson. Lang breaks free and he and Hope dispatch most of the Hydra agents, though Carson is able to flee with a vial of Cross' particles and Pym is shot. Lang pursues Cross as he escapes, while the explosives detonate, imploding the building. Pym and van Dyne escape by driving a World War 2 Russian T-34 Tank disguised as Pym's keychain, which he used his particles on.

Cross dons the Yellowjacket and attacks Lang before Lang is arrested by Paxton. His mind addled by the imperfect shrinking technology, Cross takes Cassie hostage to lure Lang into another fight. Lang overrides the regulator and shrinks to subatomic size to penetrate Cross' suit and sabotage it to shrink uncontrollably, killing Cross. Lang disappears into the quantum realm but manages to reverse the effects and returns to the macroscopic world. In gratitude for Lang's heroism, Paxton covers for Lang to keep him out of prison. Seeing that Lang survived and returned from the quantum realm, Pym wonders if his wife is alive as well. Later, Lang meets up with Luis, who tells him that Wilson is looking for him.

In a mid-credits scene, Pym shows van Dyne a new Wasp prototype suit and offers it to her. In a post-credits scene, Wilson and Steve Rogers have Bucky Barnes in their custody. Unable to contact Tony Stark because of "the accords", Wilson mentions that he knows someone who could help.
